Glow vs Acuity: the scheduler a lot of salons grew up on
Acuity Scheduling — now under Squarespace — ran a lot of UK beauty diaries for years, including salons that later moved to Glow. It is a serious calendar. It is not a patch-test product.
Side by side
| Glow | Acuity Scheduling | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | £19 flat | Tiered USD plans, extras as you grow |
| Owner | Glow (UK) | Squarespace |
| Patch / skin test enforcement | Yes, per category | Workarounds, not native |
| Infill windows | Native | You invent services |
| Consent + batches | On the booking | Forms you build yourself |
| Migration off Acuity | We have done it, free | You are the one leaving |
The real difference
Acuity is good software. Powerful intake forms, packages, add-ons, a booking page you can theme. Salons stay on it for years because it mostly works. The gap is always the same: a test that should have blocked the booking, an infill booked as a full set, a consent that lived in a different form tool.
Glow is narrower on purpose. It will not be as infinitely configurable as Acuity. It will say patch test, skin test, infill, sitting, and it will refuse the booking when the rule says so. One live Glow salon came from an Acuity export. The clients, the services and the history moved.
Where Acuity is genuinely stronger
Packages, complicated class schedules, and a long tail of form logic. If you are half salon and half course provider, look at both. If you are a treatment business that needs the file, look at Glow.
Questions
- Can you import an Acuity CSV?
- Yes. We have already moved a UK salon off Acuity. Clients, services and bookings. Free.
- Is Acuity cheaper?
- Entry plans can look cheaper in dollars until you add the extras. Glow is £19 with staff, SMS allowance, tests and consent included.
- Does Glow have packages like Acuity?
- Glow has add-ons, baskets, infills and deposits. It is not a clone of Acuity's package builder.
- Will my clients notice?
- They get a new link. Same idea: pick a service, pick a time, pay a deposit. No Squarespace account required on their side either.
